Top Ten Tuesday (18)

Top Ten Favorite Book Quotes:

Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi:
“She reminded me of a warning I was fond of repeating: do not, under any circumstances, belittle a work of fiction by trying to turn it into a copy of real life; what we search for in fiction is not so much reality but the epiphany of truth.” - Azar Nafisi

Black Heart by Holly Black:
“Birth to grave, we know it will be us one day. Our tragedy is that we forget that it might be someone else first.” - Cassel Sharpe

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare:
Jem: “Remember when you tried to convince me to feed a poultry pie to the mallards in the park to see if you could breed a race of cannibal ducks?”
Will Herondale: “They ate it too. Bloodthirsty little beasts. Never trust a duck.”

Second Helpings by Megan McCafferty
Call Me Chantalle: “Maybe we could be roommates again!”
Jessica Darling: “So it’s true.”
Call me Chantalle: “What’s true?”
Jessica Darling: “That psychosis is a sypmtom of advanced-stage syphilis.”
Call Me Chantalle: “What do you mean?”
Jessica Darling: “Because you’ve got to have a sexually transmitted brain-eating virus to think I’d ever live with you again.”

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
“If you want to see what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” - Sirius Black

The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
“Honor from death is a myth. Invented by the war torn to make sense of the horrific. If we die, it will be so that others may live. Truly honorable death, the only honorable death, is one that enables life.” - Elisa

Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
“I actually think he wants to cry, but that revolting male protocol of not crying when you feel like shit just kicks in.” - Francesca

White Cat by Holly Black:
“And if I wanted to kill myself, I wouldn’t throw myself off a roof. And if I was going to throw myself off a roof, I would put some pants on before I did it.” - Cassel Sharpe

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
“To the everlasting credit of the people of District 12, not one person claps. Not even the ones holding betting slips, the ones who are usually beyond caring. possibly because they know me from the Hob, or knew my father, or have encountered Prim, who no one can help loving. So instead of acknowledging applause, I stand there unmoving while they take part in the boldest form of dissent they can manage. Silence. Which says we do not agree. We do not condone. All of this is wrong.
Then something unexpected happens. At least, I don’t expect it because I don’t think of District 12 as a place that cares about me. But a shift has occurred since I stepped up to take Prim’s place, and now it seems I have become someone precious. At first one, then another, then almost every member of the crowd touches the three middle fingers of their left hand to their lips and holds it out to me. It is an old and rarely used gesture of our district, occasionally seen at funerals. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means good-bye to someone you love.” - Katniss Everdeen

Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon
“I found myself thinking that I had always heretofore assumed that the tendency of eighteenth century ladies to swoon was due to tight stays; now I rather thought it might be due to the idiocy of eighteenth century men.” - Claire Randall Fraser

BONUS:
A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin
“Laughter is poison to fear.” - Catelyn Stark

  1. Love the Game of Thrones quote, I chose one of Syrio's in the end. I also like the Sirius quote from Harry Potter, I gave up trying to choose anything from HP as it was too hard to narrow it down!
