Top Ten Books I Want to See Made Into Movies:
1. Cinder by Marissa Meyer
I think this Cinderella-meets-cyborg fairy tale retelling would be fantastic visually. The world Meyer built was so elaborate and different, I’d love to see it on a big screen. And finally, a Cinderella character I can get behind!
Who would play Cinder? Katie Cassidy. I feel like she could rock Cinder’s more sarcastic side.
2. Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma
I’ve read this book twice now and I can’t get over how deliciously creepy it is. I think it would make for a fantastic junior psychological thriller.
Who would play Chloe? Ruby? For my fantasy casting, I’m going to finally get Emma Stone and Mila Kunis to play sisters. Emma Stone as Chloe and Mila Kunis as Ruby. I feel like Emma Stone could pull off Chloe’s more reserved manner. I feel like Mila Kunis could easily bend people to her will using her gorgeous eyes, so there’s Ruby.
3. Liesl and Po by Lauren Oliver
Lauren Oliver’s fantastic middle grade book would make an awesomely dark kid’s movie. The dreary setting combined with the bold cast of characters would work perfectly.
Who Would Play Liesl? Definitely Chloe Moretz. She can easily flip between reserved and fierce. Also, she can obviously pull off historical settings.
4. The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
Do I even need to explain this one? STEAMPUNK SHADOWHUNTERS. PERIOD CLOTHING. DEMON HUNTING. CLOCKWORK ARMY. There are my explanations. This would delight me so much, you have no idea.
Who would play Tessa? Nina Dobrev. Girl can rock 19th century fashion like it’s her job. Also, I’ve seen some gorgeous fan art for these books on tumblr, she looks perfect for the role.
Who would play Will? Ben Barnes. Have you seen how pretty that boy is? He would make a lovely Will.
Who would play Jem? John Cho back in the 90s. We’ll bring him back in a time machine. He’s like forty now, which astounds me because he looks pretty much the same. But since this is my blog and I do what I want, I’m going to pluck this actor out of the 90s and bring him into my present-day adaptation of a 19th century-set book.
5. The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
Crazy cool epic fantasy story. Wildly different settings--including an elaborate, lavish court setting and a desert.
Who would play Elisa? I can’t think of anyone for this role! Does anyone have a suggestion?
6. Everneath by Brodi Ashton
Paranormal meets the Persephone myth with a love triangle that isn’t so much about the love when it comes down to it. There’s music, a dark underworld, and complicated friendships/relationships galore.
Who would play Nikki? Jessica Stroup. I’m not sure why.
Who would play Jack? Steven R. McQueen. I also happen to particularly love him recently because he finally returned to The Vampire Diaries and is doing a brilliant job as Jeremy Gilbert.
Who would play Cole? Joe Anderson. He’s attractive and would look great holding a guitar. Plus, he has a great voice. I’d completely believe him as an alluring Immortal trying to bring Nikki back to the Everneath.
7. The Curseworkers by Holly Black
I love these books so much, I just want to see a visual representation of them. I think the governmental ban on curseworking and the subsequent organized crime would lend itself quite well to the big screen.
Who would play Cassel? Michael Steger (thanks to Britt @ Not So Teen Reads for the nudge!). Cassel is supposed to look vaguely exotic, with family members claiming that past ancestors were slaves or descended directly from ancient Rome.
Who would play Lila? Dianna Agron. She has the classic blonde pretty that I’ve always associated with Lila, despite her younger self’s punkish description. She’s not weak, but she does pretty believable breakdowns.
8. I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga
I absolutely adored this book. There’s no way that a serial killer’s son’s story wouldn’t make for a good movie. Suspense! Bloodshed! Psychological confusion! Unreliable narration!
Who would play Jazz? Young Leo DiCaprio. I’m thinking circa Titanic and Romeo + Juliet, only sans the ‘90s haircut. He would definitely have the charm to pull off Jazz’s slightly manipulative, yet vulnerable personality.
9. The Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter
Since there are already a bunch of movies about spy kids, why not create a more mature, entirely less creepy set of films devoted to Cammie Morgan, teenage spy extraordinaire and all of her friends?
Who would play Cammie? I know that Cammie has, like, honey blonde hair, but for some reason I keep picturing Selena Gomez playing her. I think she’d be good for the various scrapes and ridiculous situations Cammie ends up in.
Who would play Zach? Young Paul Rudd. Think circa Clueless. I wasn’t told that I couldn’t use a time machine during casting, so here you go. I think he could pull off annoying Cammie to death and exploring the darker side of his family history
10. Haunting Violet by Alyxandra Harvey
Nothing like a good Victorian con artist meets ghost story.
Who would play Violet? I might have to cheap out and say Nina Dobrev again. She's surprisingly versatile in her acting!
Who would play Colin? Kit Harington. He can easily pull off acting like he’s in another time period (I’ve been watching a lot of Game of Thrones recently)
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
AHH! I forgot to put Everneath on my list. And I agree Jessica Stroup would be excellent as Nikki.

Thank you! It took a bit more time than I expected haha
DeleteNope! I think the only thing I've seen Chloe Moretz in is HUGO, but she was awesome in that. I'll have to check out Let Me In! Thanks for the rec :)
Chloe Moretz was fantastic in Hugo- really surprising how good she was. She was awesome in Let Me In (along with the other young actor).
Deleteoh oh oh so many great ones. I love your list. I loved Girl of Fire and Thorns so much I'm nervous they would mess it up as a movie though but if they pulled it off that would be awesome

Surely!
DeleteThat's awesome that you added your casting picks. Young Paul Rudd as Zach- how perfect. I remember when Clueless first came out, I had the biggest crush on him!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read The Infernal Devices, but I like your pick of Ben Barnes. What a cutie pie. He'd be great in a period film, too, like The Luxe.
Same! I feel like Paul Rudd is forever. And ooh, you're so right about Ben Barnes and The Luxe! We should start campaigning for that right away haha
DeleteNina Dobrev is too pretty, it's just unfair. I think she would rock the parts you 'gave' her!
